I am building the "1800 mileage master" combo as prescribed in the ACN article. Posted: Sun 4:41 pm Post subject: More specifics on fly cutting. I always consider the fly cutter as the poor man's boring cutter. Although you can use a dial indicator to slowly set the bit out farther and farther so you take a little at a time. This is an interesting in that I always thought it would be more of a boring operation than an all at once operation. It looks like most of the fly cutting is done with a lathe bit in a fly cutter that holds the bit 90 to the direction of rotation. This is an interesting topic for me as well. if they take a lot off you might have to shim the rockers worst case. more info would help? deck cam compression you want to run? ect. no your not going to shim the cylinders that is defeating the point of the fly cut. How much on the fly cut? they take it off where the head seals to the cylinder. Thank you all in advance for your time and efforts. Moreover, does this effect the valve train geometry or require compensation via cylinder shims or rocker arm shims? This forum is so massive that I am getting lost in all the directions the threads are taking me. I am not sure where the material is cut from and I am curious if the process of fly cutting is going to change overall engine width. I am building an 1800 and will be fly cutting the heads.
